Date Night Movies

April 28, 2011 by D. Park Photography 5 Comments

So, we’ve got 2 different personalities.

On date night, David would much prefer this.

While me – I’d [Drexelle] rather watch this.

So we compromise.  As do all you couples as well, right?

Our latest compromises have resulted in these AMAZING at-home movies that we recommend.  It’s got a little something for the action/thriller lover and the romance/drama seekers in all couples.

Loyal fans since Gladiator, Russell Crowe along with Director/Writer Paul Haggis (known for movies like Crash and Casino Royale) did NOT disappoint.  …I don’t want to spoil the plot or anything.  It was unexpectedly perfect for our date night.  Watch it!

Ok, so lately our martial arts movies we’ve watched have been either much too depressing for a romantic night together for me or lacking the jaw-dropping non-CG “HOW did he do that?!” moments.  We stumbled upon this movie and, honestly, believe it’s one of the BEST martial arts movies we’ve seen.  Watch Ip Man, a movie loosely based on the mentor of Bruce Lee.  Come on.  You know you want to watch it.

Last, but not least…

Ok, I feel I have to add a disclaimer.

We confess we are not High School Musical fans.

Before this, we weren’t too fond of Zac Efron.

But when we sucked it up (and found nothing good at Blockbusters to rent at the time), we gave this older movie a shot…and we LOVED it. Officially made a part of David’s blu-ray collection, this is a classic in our home.  It also helps that we’re huge Friends fans and Chandler, I mean, Matthew Perry, was great here.

Great comedy and the perfect flick if you want to just relax and laugh for the evening.

what next?

Any tips for what movies we should see that are perfect for our date nights?  Recommendations please!  Leave a comment below.

We have the same problem. We do Netflix and most of the movies on queue are my husbands. But we just watched Shrek Forever (the 4th one. love the whole collection) and it was really funny. It even kept my attention and I didn’t multi task on my iphone either!

Don’t rent Due Date. That was so dumb I turned it off after 15 minutes. Even he hated it.

Haha! Thanks for sharing, Melissa! I was curious about that Due Date…now we know to not watch it.

Man, it sucks when a movie is bad right from the beginning, isn’t it?

We are in the same boat! Kaiao likes all the action movies and I like romance, but we can meet in the middle sometimes. We just watch R.E.D. a few weeks ago, and even though there was a lot of action, it was funny and I was laughing the whole time! We both really liked it. A-Team was also funny. (We watched Due Date when it came out and it was awful, so sad that we saw it in the theaters 🙁 )

We loved watching IP MAN! We still have yet to watch IP MAN 2. The Other Guys is funny, Despicable Me is cute, 500 Days of Summer is another must see… That’s all I can think of at the moment. Yay for date night movies!=)
