And just like that, our boy turned 5!
One of his biggest movie obsessions (and admittedly one of ours) is with Disney Pixar’s Inside Out. That movie can still get us in laughter + tears. And with the adventure our family has been on, it was perfect to have a party that celebrated every emotion.
We had the FABULOUS Twig & Blossom plan, design, and bring to life a dream-come-true Inside Out birthday party for our little boy!
With Knightly’s islands of personalities:
Spinning
Jumping
Bubbles
Balls
and Balloons!
We had our own Imagination Land, a play area for kids and adults like with a House of Cards, and Balloon backdrop with Bing Bong and his rocket!
And we had every emotion in our Emotion Dessert Table (complete with Participation Award baggies)
Such incredible details and decor pieces from Twig & Blossom!
I love that this is Knightly’s silhouette – so precious.
Long Term Memory Retrieval mind manuals (or covers to photo albums of Knightly!)
A perfect Inside Out birthday cake from A Little Something Sweet Desserts!
And, of course, broccoli pizza
We were overflowing with joy
Especially after the most harrowing day before.
As one of the scariest moments as parents, Knightly went missing and we had to call the cops.
David woke me from a nap frantically saying, “I can’t find Knightly!”
Knightly had learned how to open the door when guests arrived, but we’ve never seen him open it and run away. And just earlier that day, I was proudly telling the therapists we didn’t have any elopement issues with him either. Aw, those precious foot in mouth moments.
It felt like a dream as I ran out in my PJs. David ran around the neighborhood while I drove. He hadn’t been gone long so he couldn’t have gone far. But as we circled all his favorite places and asked all the passers by, had they seen a little boy running around? We checked all around the house twice. There were no clues on where he’d went.
15 minutes passed by and our minds were turning to terrible possibilities.
I submitted an urgent alert on our neighborhood app asking all neighbors in the area if they’d seen a little boy with Down Syndrome anywhere.
When I drove back home, I saw two teenage boys at our door who said, “We want to help you find your son.” I must’ve looked insane at that point in tears yelling, “Yes please!” And the two boys ran out.
We decided to call the cops. Just as I started to have to describe what he looked like, I saw Knightly coming down the street being pushed on a wheelchair by the 2 teenagers!
I ran and held him tight crying with joy and thanking the boys profusely with embarrassing hugs, checking every limb and making sure he wasn’t hurt.
So what happened?
Knightly ran a block away, found a wheelchair (really hoping he didn’t push someone out of it), and was just pushing the wheelchair back and forth having a ball with his new toy.
The boys dropped off Knightly and then went to go find the wheelchair’s owner.
The next day, we celebrated Knightly’s 5th birthday with loved ones and invited the boys and their family to come. There was so much to be thankful for.
We got to celebrate our boy’s birthday with our boy in our arms.
We got to tell the parents how well they raised their kids.
And we got to have a photo with our heroes.
More grateful than ever for these 5 years
Happy birthday, our mighty Knightly! Thank You, Lord, for 5 years of joy and laughter and love <3
