Common Mistakes to Avoid When Selecting Wedding Favors | Exclusive Tips with Dough-a-Deer

April 11, 2011 by D. Park Photography Leave a Comment

Today’s Type A Bride post is a sweet one.  Ok, maybe that was a little cheese but I’m super excited to have had the pleasure to meet this FUN fun lady!

Introducing exclusive tips on how to have DELICIOUS crowd-pleasing one-of-a-kind favors, doughnuts – an interview with Nicole Anderson of Dough a Deer.

how did you start making such fabulous doughnuts?

Funny story.  I actually wanted Krispy Kreme at like 12 at night and they used to be open really late but apparently they don’t anymore! So as I was driving home, sulking, I decided to look up how to make my own and PRESTO! =]

how are you different from other favor designers out there?

Well, no one else is doing what we’re doing…yet. lol. It’s inevitable that someone will sooner or later but we’re happy to be the original baked doughnut company and they are just so freaking cute! No one can resist them and a lot of brides and grooms these days are looking for ways to make their wedding unique so we’re great for the doughnut lovers out there!

how did you select the name Dough-a-Deer?

Well first the name was Dough babies…then I put out a cry for help for name ideas because it just didn’t feel right. My husband’s best friend’s mom actually named me…all the way from England! =]. I must owe her royalties or something…haha!

what advice do you have for brides in selecting unique, but guests-will-love-em favors?

Make sure the favor says something about you and your partner! The favor should show your personality and not just be something you picked up to say “thanks for coming.” Also, edible is the way to go!!

most popular doughnut flavor?

My vanilla/cinnamon doughnut is my best seller by far! There are so many choices though so it’s hard to say which one people like best overall!

what common mistakes would you like to warn brides about when selecting favors for their wedding?

Don’t make the mistake I did. LOL. Make sure you see reviews of other people who have had that service at their wedding.  We ended up with $600 worth of cupcakes that didn’t taste great and were sloppily done haha. Also, not saying it’s necessarily a mistake, but buying stuff people are just going to throw away when they get home! Don’t waste your money!

what makes the BIGGEST impression from your point of view with doughnut favors?

It’s not really expected…not only that but they are so cute and people LOVE mini stuff. They make great additions to dessert tables but nothing beats getting a bag with 2 little doughnuts in it at their seat when they get into the reception!

want to try their yummy doughnuts?
