Type A Bride | Ever Ours. All Things Romantically Wedding.

November 3, 2010 by D. Park Photography 5 Comments

Sat down with the realist in love Ever Ours wedding blogger, Lydia, over gelato at Old Towne Orange.

After following her work and running into her, I’ve been so charmed!  I had to know how this lady got from “playing the cynic” to being a romantic with her charming wedding blog, Ever Ours.

lydia, how’d you start ever ours?

My 9-5 job was a paper pusher job so, in order to follow my love for pretty things, I decided to start a blog.

All throughout college, I was interested in weddings and followed blogs like Style Me Pretty. A lot of my friends at the time were getting engaged.  I thought I could do this on the side for fun and give my friends something to look at while planning.  Through Twitter, Facebook, and word of mouth, it’s kind of grown a lot – unexpectedly but in a good way.

so you didn’t plan for it to get this big?

No. Not at all!  It’s not BIG big yet but it’s definitely interesting to see how it’s grown.  The people I’ve met and established relationships with have been so great!

loved your bio!  can you explain, from your bio, what does it mean to be a realist in love?

As much as I love the Disney princesses, romantic comedies, and chick flicks, they are love from the Hollywood mindset.  At least, that’s how I see it.  So when I watch those movies, I’m always like, “Yeah, right!  That doesn’t happen in real life.”

also from your bio, what is a dance party like by yourself? can you show me?

No, you definitely don’t want to see! That’s why it’s by myself.

in all your blog entries, you start with a song. why?

I REALLY love music!  It’s always been a part of me.  Even before I was born, my dad used to play the guitar and Beatles music in my mom’s stomach when she was pregnant with me.  I grew up listening to oldies and all kinds of music.  Both my sister and I were not the typical kids whose first song was Twinkle, Twinkle.  My first song I learned was Love Me Tender by Elvis Presley!

where do you find the inspiration for these songs for your blog?

When I first hear a song, the most important thing for me is the lyric.  That’s what speaks to a person.  When I watch guilty pleasures shows, I pay more attention to the music.  That’s the sole reason why I started watching Laguna Beach and The Hills and Grey’s Anatomy. A lot of those artists I really enjoy came from those shows.

you feature a lot of inspirations for weddings on your blog. Where do you find them?

All over the place!  I’m just lucky to be able to establish a lot of relationships with a lot of photographers so, as soon as I send over an email asking to blog their images, they shoot over and say, “Yeah, go ahead!”

It’s about whatever sparked my interest. I follow certain photographers I really like.  I even look at who has left a comment on their blog to see who’s admiring and following them because they can be other bloggers or photographers.

with all your experience with weddings, do you have any advice for brides on their wedding day?

I’m going to sound cliche when I say just be you.  That’s most important.

I love that line about weddings on your blog: “In the end, love is celebrated and that’s what is most important.”

I think people can definitely lose their focus on love when planning a wedding.  Especially having been in the industry just a little bit and seeing what gets pictured on the blogs, I think people tend to get caught up in the planning and forget what they’re really doing together – stepping into the new chapter of their lives together, starting brand new with someone else.  When planning, they forget that it’s just about them.

how do you think you were able to get your blog to grow?

Social media!  Take advantage of that.  Seriously, use social media like twitter, reach out, and be persistent.  I have this crazy schedule where I basically blog and then tweet about what I blog about. Then, I go through twitter to see if anything stands out that my followers would like to hear about.  Then, I comment on other peoples’ blogs.  If you don’t, you don’t seem real.  You become just some blogger rather than a real voice.
