I love every part of planning and photographing a wedding. But brides aren’t limited to only having fabulous photos of their wedding day, there are plenty of events coming up to the special day that can be captured.
One of my favorite events, the awesome BRIDAL SHOWER!
Had the pleasure of being invited and photographing one of the best bridal showers. After laughing and crying away the evening, I decided to stay on the keyboard and help you Type A Bridal Parties.
Every bride’s different but here are some simple ingredients:
How to Have the BEST Bridal Shower
1 | Make ’em welcome
A | Give everyone ample notice so they can set the date (ESPECIALLY the bride who is thinking of 100 other dates and appointments she has to keep for the wedding day).
B | Get everyone involved from the get go! A popular way to do that is to have them start an activity right from the door. At this shower, guests were invited to write down their favorite memory of the bride (you can even tell them to think of this ahead of time). Then, they wrote their name on the back. Throughout the evening during slow spots, the bride was invited to read some memories and guess who wrote it!
C | Play good music throughout the whole evening. Music can keep ’em at ease or dancing the night away.
2 | Make ’em pretty
A | Theme the shower.
B | Include the theme in every part of the decor (from invitations to desserts)
C | Details. Details. Just like in a wedding day, the little things can really take the event that much farther in everyone’s minds.
3 |Make ’em full
A | Like at weddings, food is the surest way to win everyone’s hearts. Have ample drinks, hors d’ouevres, and DELICIOUS food.
B | Oh, and have awesome SWEETS
Chocolate is normally a major part of a woman’s daily food pyramid.
Well, at least for me.
The bridal party created mini-cakes in the shape of these adorable winter cabins! I would’ve hated ruining them if they hadn’t tasted so darn good. Darn…tempting…chocolate.
4 | Make ’em LAUGH
A | Keep it fun! The bridal party is key to welcoming and entertaining all the guests as the bride tries to take time to mingle with each of ’em.
B | Have AWESOME games. Keep them interactive. Go with the theme. Have awesome PRIZES. Let them know and then compete to win them.
This is one of the most embarrassing games I’ve ever seen done. But, honestly, what ended up being the best.
The LINGERIE Game
Guests were broken up into groups of 5 and given these HUGE white panties to decorate. Our goal? We had to create the bride’s wedding night lingerie. Afterwards, we were to do a walk down the runway and have the bride choose.
Needless to say, everyone could not stop laughing throughout the game.
And *ahem* we won with our simple lingerie. Why did such a simple piece win you might say? Because we knew our bride + groom were huge western fans and we simply designed the lingerie accordingly.
Now, we’ve all made toilet paper wedding dresses. As fun as that can be, it’s not the only game out there. Want more ideas for rad bridal shower games? Try these sites:
5 | Make ’em cry
Ok, you may judge me. But I seriously consider an event successful if you got someone to cry (if they can cry…and, more importantly, if the crying was out of happiness)
A | Share the bride and groom’s love story. Let the bride be surprised by words of love from her groom.
B | Give the loved ones an opportunity to share their love for the bride and shower their blessings, either through sharing memories aloud, speaking words of love, or even using a video montage.
Hope these help! In closing, I’m sharing my embarrassing Lingerie Game moment below.
