I’ve always been interested to try new hair accessories but have always been somewhat intimidated about what can go on my hair. When I met Eugenie Chung from Petit Plume and saw her work, I fell in love with the hair pieces. I had to get to know her and what she was all about.
So we shared brunch and some tea at Tranquil Tea in Fullerton and I learned about her lovely story and Petit Plume.
how did petit plume start?
I first wanted to go into Art Therapy, using arts as a means of therapy for people who had difficulty communicating in words. I applied for the Masters program and didn’t get accepted. I was crushed!
When I had gone to the interview for the program, I just designed something different as a headband for my hair. When I got rejected, I just looked at my headband and thought, “Hey, this is really cute. Maybe I’ll make a bunch of these just for fun.”
People began to notice my work, a company contacted me and requested pieces for their look book photo shoot. A friend who had started his own company told me to start a business.
“But I’m not business minded…so I’m going to fail,” I thought.
But he guided me through it. It’s been one year later and here I am.

how’d you get the name petit plume?
I thought of the materials I love to use. I couldn’t name my business little feathers. But I created a few different names with the concept and had people vote: Petit Plume won.
what’s petit plume‘s style?
It’s a European, French Bohemian style for hair accessories. Cute. Stylish.
Handmade with love.
I pay attention to detail and am always trying to find and try out new things. I customize, experiment, and meet people’s needs.

what’s next for petit plume?

any tips on how to pick the right hair accessory for your wedding?
Hair accessories are not subtle like jewelry. Everyone looks at your face. If there is something big in your hair, they will look at it. Everyone is different though so take a look at your head shape and pick the style accordingly.
Take a risk and try out different pieces! Some people are intimidated but if they try it on and wear it for a day, they get a feel for how people notice and compliment and realize what style works for them.
