What to Look for in Your Wedding Photographer Part 3 | Chemistry

October 27, 2011 by D. Park Photography 1 Comment

Part 3 of our series:

What should you look for in your wedding photographer?

We’ve gone over the importance of your wedding photographer’s Attention to Detail and Night Photography.  This time, we’re going one of the most important things to consider in your wedding photographer:

PART 3 | CHEMISTRY

In 95% of our couples, at least one person tells us they are not comfortable in front of a camera.  Yet, thank God for His help with doing so, we are able to get our couples comfortable and, by the end, loving the camera.  In fact, many have turned to complete hams.

Why?

One major reason: CHEMISTRY!

MUST SEE FRIENDS CLIP

Here’s a great example of getting a photographer without chemistry: Remember Monica & Chandler in Friends?  (Btw, we’re complete Friends addicts…have the whole series and have watched it more than we care to confess).

If you haven’t seen it, check out this hilarious (but painfully common) engagement session: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eq6br4KU9e4

how to find a photographer with which you have chemistry

1.  Look at their portfolio.  Aside from the composition, postprocessing, environment, etc…go straight to looking at the couple’s faces.  Do their faces look comfortable?

2.  Talk to the photographer!

Over the phone or in person, do you get along?  Does your fiance get along with the photographer?  Do they already make you feel comfortable?

They”ll be by your side all day.  You’ll want to know it’s with people you’d like by your side.

3.  Ask them how they make their couples feel comfortable.

4.  Ask the photographer how they will capture you, not with poses they use on everyone in the same places they’ve used with everyone else, but you the way you two truly are.

Find a wedding photographer that you both love.  It’ll give you the freedom on your wedding day to just play

To laugh

To cry

Stay tuned for more.
