There are couples we’ve been blessed to meet who enter our lives and makes us see the world in a new light.
We’re so thrilled to share with you one of those couples and their beautiful Calamigos Ranch wedding. Planned by the fabulous DB Creativity, we’re pleased to unveil the wedding of the incomparable and amazing Shamrock and David.
the love story
from the groom
I have a lot of fun little stories about our relationship, but I’ll just share an amusing one about our first date…
I saw Shamrock’s dating profile on OkCupid, and really liked her profile pictures, so I decided to send her a message. Now, before you get all judgy on me and tell me I’m superficial, Shamrock had next to NOTHING about herself in her actual dating profile besides photos! I think the only thing listed on her profile was she liked to dance, and she liked pho. Lucky for me, I too like pho, so that’s really all I needed to write an intro message.
After a few messages back and forth, we arranged for our first date at The Standard in downtown Los Angeles. I got there 15 minutes early, Shamrock got there 45 minutes late. After about 40 minutes of waiting, I honestly thought I was being cat-fished. Even the waiter started to give me this pitying look after I kept insisting someone was coming any minute.
As I sat there, sipping on my drink and checking my phone, Shamrock texted me updates like, “I got lost,” and “I have to get gas,” and “I can’t find parking.” I actually started looking around to see if there was someone on their phone in the corner giggling after I read each text. Eventually I got a text from Shamrock saying she arrived, and had been walking around looking for me. I thought that was strange, since I was looking right at the entrance area, and never saw her walk in. At this point, I’m seriously considering this was all some kind of joke. Nevertheless, I reluctantly got up and started looking around for her, half expecting to instead find someone rolling on the floor laughing, unable to stand the joke any longer. Thankfully, I didn’t find someone pranking me. I turned a corner and locked eyes with an incredibly cute girl that would one day become my wife!
from the bride
I’m going to keep this short and sweet, just like my OkCupid profile. 😉 While I was quite late to our first date, David did choose a location that was conveniently close (a few blocks away) from his home in downtown LA…it’s hard to be late when your date is basically in your backyard! To be honest, I was reluctant and a little nervous about meeting a stranger I had met online (David was my first blind date ever). Just look at us now, two blobs in the universe that are going to be married very soon! Anyway, back to that first date. I was almost not going to go out with David based on my initial impression of his online profile. I remember thinking, “Oh no, this guy is half Asian, his favorite movie is Zoolander, and he runs his own company….he’s probably going to be very arrogant and get on my nerves.”
Thankfully, David wasn’t the guy I thought he was going to be.
Upon first seeing David in the flesh, I was so very relieved he was exactly the same David from his online profile and not some serial killer creep plotting my death. Phew!
He was very sweet and charming, even his Alfafa-like hair was charming. At one point a lady came up to us and asked, “Are you two on a date?” We both nodded quietly, like little children in a classroom. I was half expecting her to ask one of us out on a date herself, but she replied, “My friends and I are watching you from afar, and the two of you are just so cute together!” That was definitely an unexpected and very welcome comment from a stranger.
Thank you, lady at The Standard, David and I will never forget you!
romantic proposal
from the groom
I proposed at Lightning in a Bottle (LIB) last Memorial Day weekend (2016). Once the sun went down, I led Shamrock out to an empty field near our campsite, where I had set up battery powered Christmas lights in a circle, hidden in the grass. I dropped behind Shamrock for a second to turn on the lights, brought her to the middle of the circle, got down on one knee, and…I can’t remember what I said exactly…”something something something…will you marry me?” As I knelt there, excitement and passion tingling throughout my body, tears of happiness in my eyes, heart overflowing with love and affection, Shamrock replied…
“BAAABBEEE! I’M EATING BREAD!!!”
…then she said “of course I’ll marry you!” 😉
from the bride
In my defense, I didn’t want to ruin the moment by saying yes with a mouth full of bread in my mouth, so I was hoping David would wait, but I think that piece of bread made that moment all the more special. :p
Right after David proposed, he told me all he did in preparation for that night. He literally drove to Las Vegas from LA the night before just to pick up the ring, asked for my mom’s blessing (that was the moment that touched me the most), drove us 4 straight hours to LIB, and set up camp and the engagement surprise. He did all that and never once complained about how tired he was. I think David is secretly a knight or something…
