Introducing this breathtaking Coyote Hills Golf Course and Mon Amour Banquet wedding of Diem and Will!
the love story (from the couple)
Diem and Will had chemistry—that is, they had chemistry class together.
It was September 2004, the start of a new semester at Orange Coast College. During a break from chemistry class, Will was hanging out with his buddies when he saw her: a girl studying on the bench in front of him. It was only the first week of classes, and she was already reviewing her notes! Diem wanted to do well in school and squeezed in study time whenever she could. Will’s friend Phillip told Will that he knew that girl; she was his lab partner. Phillip called out to Diem. Diem looked up from her books and waved back, nervously. She was surprised to see her nice lab partner Phillip with such thuggish friends: one had his head shaved bald (this was Peter) and the other wore a beanie and baggy pants that sagged (this, of course, was none other than Will). They looked like trouble.
The bad boy in a beanie, however, soon became Diem’s best friend. They were study buddies and pulled many all-nighters for chemistry, physics, and countless other classes they took together. They spent time together outside of school—playing tennis, forming a group of friends called Ill DnB Crew (which grew to 30+ people and fused together Will’s friends from college and high school). Dave and Busters was their stomping grounds. They were there for each other through ups and downs and became so close that their friends thought: 1) they were secretly dating, or 2) they should be together. Diem and Will shrugged these comments off. Their friends were just being really weird. Dating your best friend? Weird! In retrospect, maybe they were on to something.
For about a year, Diem and Will lost touch. She transferred to Cal State Fullerton, where she would pursue a bachelor’s in biology to apply to pharmacy school. Will transferred to University of California, Irvine to focus on a bachelor’s in psychology.
After their hiatus, Diem and Will reconnected. Like before, it felt effortless to be in each other’s company and they returned to being best friends. But this time it was different: they were both single. Although it was weird at first, they started to fall for each other. The awkwardness of being best friends in love soon vanished the more and more Diem and Will spent time together. They never got sick of each other even when they saw one another every single day. They lived together and loved being around each other. They were inseparable, sharing friends and making new ones along the way. They met each other’s families and survived. They grew together—personally and professionally. Diem was accepted into pharmacy school; Will started to work with Pfizer. They traveled together: a cruise to Mexico, trips to Vegas, getaways to Hawaii. As Diem delved more into her studies to pursue her career, Will rooted for her throughout her journey.
Despite their busy schedules, they found time for each other. They knew they were meant to be together. But Will decided to wait to make it official and propose. He didn’t want to distract Diem since she was trying to finish pharmacy school. Alas, the next chapter of their love story would have to wait.
romantic proposal
It was a hot summer day on June 3rd, 2015.
Since Diem had graduated from pharmacy school a few weeks earlier, it was the perfect time for him to pop the big question. Will was ready to propose. He planned for his cousin Kelly to hang out with his sister Nhu. Knowing that Diem would never turn down dessert, Will asked Diem if she wanted to get Frostbites with Nhu and Kelly. At Frostbites, Will told Diem that Kelly needed to go to Orange Coast College to drop off an assignment for her photography class. Diem thought poor Kelly was going to get so many points deducted from her grade since school was already on break. Unknown to Diem, this was all part of Will’s plan. Off to OCC they went. When they walked in front of the chemistry building, Will took Diem to the benches where they first met. Nhu had the ring. Kelly had her camera ready to capture the moment.
Will asked Diem to marry him.
She said yes!
