how they met
Kelsey and Preston met on October 23, 2010 at Baylor University Homecoming. They were both enjoying the homecoming festivities and tailgating when they met. After discovering that they held many mutual friendships and had coincidentally never crossed paths, they began to talk and then parted ways. After a few more chance meetings, they began to start seeing each other and began “officially dating” on January 11, 2011. After Preston graduated from Baylor in December 2010 he stayed in Waco for a few months, before moving to Dallas, conveniently around the same time that Kelsey moved to Dallas to begin her coursework at Baylor’s Louise Herrington School of Nursing.
romantic proposal (from the bride)
It all began when Preston and I were vacationing with my family at our lake house in Chautauqua, New York. I was on a break after graduation before beginning my career in nursing and Preston had come to visit over the 4th of July holiday. The week had been filled with events including my nursing licensure exam (Erie had the only opening before I left to work at a camp in Austin for the summer) and all sorts of family activities. July 4th began much like any other day except that we were busily preparing for our annual cocktail party on the front porch with all of our extended family and friends. Paige had recently been on a pinterest kick and had all sorts of fun red white and blue themed appetizers she was putting together. I of course was attempting to help with absolutely everything but kept getting kicked out of the kitchen so that I would go get ready. I was frustrated, but little did I know that this was all part of a grand plan that both my mom and sister were heavily involved in. We celebrated at the cocktail party and had a little bit of time before the the night program began so we decided to go on a walk.
We walked along the lake, admiring the beautiful Victorian style houses and made our way toward the bell tower. We went around to the back side of the bell tower where there was bench over-looking the lake. Rose petals covered the ground and I could feel myself getting both nervous and excited. Conversation was distracted and I was trying hard not to freak out. The subject changed to engagement rings and Preston asked if I had looked at any thing that I had liked (we had gone ring shopping earlier in the year). At that point I was convinced that this was all an elaborate trick so that I wouldn’t be able to figure out when a proposal was happening. Also I should mention that Paige had me download a ring shopping app at the beginning of the vacation to look for any that I might be interested in so that she could pass them along.
At that point we got up and walked around to the front of the tower, which I will now mention is appropriately named the “Miller Bell Tower”. We stood looking up at the clock, silent and lost in our train of thoughts. Preston turned to me and said that he had been having such a great time and that he was so happy that we had invited him to come up to Chautauqua again. I agreed and said that I would love to come back there with him. He then asked, “What if we keep coming back here forever?”. I turned to look at him and realized that he had gotten down on one knee. He asked me to marry him and I think I responded something like “Are you serious?!” and then a resounding “YES!”.
We met with family at the evening symphony and then afterwards my sister had set up a photo collage of Preston and I, complete with matching soon-to-be mr. and mrs. koozies. We celebrated with champagne as he and I contacted various family members and friends to spread the news. It was such a fabulous day that couldn’t have been possible without everyone involved!
