Introducing the adorable love story and beautiful Garden Grove St. Columban Catholic Church and Royal Restaurant and Banquet wedding of Julie + Toan!
the love story (from the bride)
My fiancé and I both met during Optometry school. Every year, there is a big optometry meeting that is held in different parts of the country. That year, it was held in Orlando, Florida. I was an incoming 2nd year Optometry school student in California, and he was an incoming 3rd year Optometry school student in Missouri (though he lives in Kansas). We met during one of the students mingling parties. I was dancing with my classmates, and he came up to me and said how he has noticed me the day before but was so nervous to come introduce himself…but he finally got the nerves now! I said, to him, “Nervous? Why don’t you grow some BALLS!” and then I walked away. He eventually was able to pick up all the broken pieces of his heart/pride/balls etc and came up to me again about 30 minutes later…haha. Anyways, we started talking and bumped into each other again a few times during the entire meeting.
the romantic proposal
The meeting sadly came to a close in Florida, so we went our respective ways. He messaged me on Facebook a few days later and we hit it off! After a few weeks of long-distance Skype and talking on the phone, he booked his ticket to come see me! On our first date, I took him to the Griffith Observatory and then eventually ended our night by hiking to the Hollywood sign and having a picnic. We had a very romantic kiss under the stars. Fast forward 2 years, him and his friends came to California for my 26th birthday and one of his friends wanted to check out the Hollywood sign. I said, “Hey that was where Toan and I had our first kiss!” Somehow, all my girlfriends wanted to come along as well. So the day after my b-day party-all his close friends and my girl-friends came along and we went hiking up the Hollywood sign. It was kind of obvious once we got to the top because Toan was looking for the place we first kissed. Anyways, he forgot which cliff it was and said what the heck and got down on his knees and proposed. I laugh-slapped his shoulder, and said yes!
